Feasibility Study on Setting up National Infrastructure for Future Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Destruction in Nepal
Nepal has been provided with financial assistance from the Multilateral Fund for the implementation of the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the Ozone Layer.
An ODS Disposal pilot project in Nepal was approved at the 59th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Multilateral Fund. As the first ODS disposal project for a LVC, Nepal has recently concluded destruction of confiscated ODS.
The Nepal ODS destruction project has established a model which not only shows the best way to manage the unwanted ODS banks in Nepal but also it demonstrates best practices which can be implemented across countries. In the similar line, a feasibility study on setting up National Infrastructure for future ODS destruction in Nepal is being planned.
The main objectives of this Project are to:
- Undertake a review of Nepal ODS destruction project and study of past experience to understand and incorporate key learning/issues/barriers
- Undertake a survey to identify various categories of unwanted ODS banks in Nepal including ODS stored in equipments
- Carry out an analysis to determine technology, costs, timelines and possible revenue streams from various options for a sustainable ODS destruction facility.
- Develop a national framework for future ODS destruction in Nepal which will act as a sustainable model for ODS destruction in Nepal
